Audience Research

The magazine's I looked at were VIBE and URBAN, The target audience for VIBE is shown below as there main readers split evenly between male and female. Out of 3,846 1,943 were male and 1,903 were female which gives them 50.5% males read VIBE and 49.5% females which shows that they target both male and female. The median age of all the people that buy VIBE is 28 which indicates to me that i should try and get a model around about this age so that the readers can relate to the main artist.  For the audience research for VIBE i used the website http://issuu.com/claudedupre/docs/vibe_brand_media_kit_mk2010 i obtained the data on the 27th of January 2011.

URBAN's reader profile suggest that there a slightly more males read it than females as there are 54% are male readers and 46% are females. The age groups that read URBAN are 13-17 year olds as it is 29% and 35-49 year olds are 30% which connotes that they target 13-17 year olds and 35-49 year olds. Which is different to the audience of VIBE although they are very similar magazine's which allows me to consider using a younger model around about my age or someone older 35-49 to relate to my choice of audience. I think i will go for a model around about my age.  I used the website; http://issuu.com/uma-marketing/docs/urbanmagazine-2010-mediakit to obtain the data of the audience of URBAN also on the 27th of January 2011.

From researching the reader profiles from other magazines within the gender that i chose, i found that the target audience of the magazines already out there are either 13-17 or 35-49 from URBAN and average age of the readers of VIBE was 28 so from this i have decided to target people between the ages of 14-20. The video below is a representation of the people that i think my magazine would appeal to i used the Find Your Tribe and UK Tribes in order to find the tribe that my magazine would fit into which I found was the tribe 'Blingers' which are known for the accessories such as watches jewelry.  This fits in with my other research that they are more into the luxuries of life rather than have the necessities and always have designer label clothing etc.  They tend to follow MTV and set there rooms out to be like something off MTV Cribs.

I created a mood board of all the things that someone who would read the magazine's i have analysed would like.  I used all the old school things in black and white and the newer generation things in colour this is to contrast the newer things with the older things.

From my focus group research i have learnt that i should use fonts that would fit in with my genre of music and would stand out off the background image using bold fonts, i am therefore going to conduct research on my types of fonts.  I found that the artist says a lot about the genre of music so therefore i should look to make my model look professional.  Also, that my artist will be vital to my magazine as therefore i should really think into my photo shoots to make my artist professional.  The body language of the artists is a key to giving away the style of the artist and how popular they are or will become.  They liked the layout of the magazine so from my research on the layout i should base my layout on the magazine's that i studied.  The photos are key to making people notice the magazine.  Within the magazine i found that posters are a good thing to have so i will look to advertise posters and free bees along with interviews as that is also what i found that people like.
