Prelim Flatplans

For my flat plan i chose the colours on my title based on the QE logo i chose the purple for the outline of the letters and i chose to shade the inside of the letters with a grey.  For my background i chose to use seperate colours for my title as i have chosen a white background for the part of my title "QE" and for the rest of my cover i have a Purple background which links with the college colours. This shows that the magazine is to do with the college as the college colours are purple, yellow and white.  The colour purple connotes royalty and suggests that the students and teachers at this college are like royalty and therefore better than other colleges.  For my mast head i have chosen the colour black as an outliner for this, because black makes it look more business like and suggests that this magazine is a more mature magazine for more mature people and sets a standard for how they expect students to be, i decided not to make the mast head to big but i made it big enough to be noticed from a distance.  For the information box on the left hand side of my page i have chosen a red outline of the box and black text inside the box the reason i have chosen red is to show that QE students can be wild but the black shows they are smart aswell.  I have chose the image of a QE student with a QE hoodie as the main picture which is located just above my main story title the shot that i have used is a medium close up the reason I chose this is because I think that this was the most appropriate for my college magazine.  I have chose the  person on my front cover as i think that this is the kind of person that would be seen in and around college and fits in with the genre of the college and this magazine.

For my contents page i have chosen to keep a plain white background so that it looks professional.  I have used the colour black for the title "contents".  For the main story on my contents page i have chosen a charity event. And have used bold writing to draw the readers attention.  I have used the left hand side of my page to display other stories and all things going on around college. for the main picture i have a boot rack with a running shoe underneath the charity event "3mile sponsored run/walk." and i have put a side caption with the page numbers on it. At the bottom of my page i have got a battle of the bands and chances to win an iPod/iTunes vouchers and i have a picture of an iPod touch and a Drum kit, Guitar, Microphone and music notes. I have chosen to put these on my contents page as i think that this stuff will interest the target audience of my college magazine.
